Green Printing
With the increasing awareness of the impact businesses have on the environment there is a movement to try to be more “green” in the workplace. A good place to focus some of that effort is with printing practices. There are some small things we can do that will have a large impact on this goal.
-
Duplex Printing Duplex Printing is available with a lot of MFPs and some printers and it simply allows you to print on both sides of the paper which effectively cuts the amount of paper you use in half. This saves you money and cuts back on wasted paper.
-
Private Printing Another feature offered by a lot of MFPs and some printers is Private Printing. When using private printing the print job does not print out until the sender goes to the printer and enters in a code which eliminates a job getting printed out by mistake or printed out and forgotten.
-
Use Print Setup and Print Preview Sometimes when you print something, there are extra pages that you did not realize were going to print, and sometimes there is only a single line on the last page. These extra pages can be quite wasteful. By taking a moment to use print setup and print preview you can select only the pages you want to print out.
-
Print Forms on Demand With a lot of documents in digital form now, it is better to print out the forms as needed. When forms are printed out in bulk there is the risk that something will need to be changed or updated and then all the unused forms would go to waste.
-
Don’t Fax, Scan-to-Email Instead when using a fax machine to send a document it will automatically print when it is received. If you scan the document to email instead then the recipient can make the decision to print it out if needed.
Doing these things takes minimal effort; it is good for business, and it is good for the environment.
